How can we motivate patients to take on two surgical procedures and an extensive rehab?

Problem

The benefits of choosing MACI for durable knee cartilage repair are well-established, but the choice to move forward is not an easy one to make for patients. Though the science of using one’s own cartilage cells to repair defects in the knee is undeniably spectacular, the logistics of committing to an arthroscopic biopsy, followed by an open-knee implant procedure, can be an uphill battle for everyone involved. Factor in many months of intensive rehab and there’s no question why patients were canceling follow through after the first procedure.

We had to help HCPs articulate the advantages of MACI while motivating their patients to dig deep and triumph over knee cartilage damage for the long haul.

“You can change your lifestyle to accommodate your injury,
or you can repair your injury to accommodate your lifestyle.”

Solution

We created a video and supporting web content that would put both the HCP and the patient on a mutually beneficial path to better outcomes. We empowered HCPs to inspire their patients to take on knee cartilage damage like they would any other training challenge. And we armed both audiences with exactly what they needed to Move forward with MACI together.

  • Clinical support for prioritizing MACI
  • Authentic dialogue for overcoming objections
  • A universal truth to inspire athletes: “No challenge. No change.”
